About

Charles Duva, MD, FACEP, CMM

After a Family Practice Residency at Halifax Medical Center in Daytona Beach, Florida, Dr. Duva began practicing emergency medicine in 1977 and has held various medical staff positions. Between 1983 and 1987 he was Vice President and part owner of 97-bed Fish Memorial Hospital in DeLand, Florida from 1983 to 1987. Under his management, at 35 years of age, Dr. Duva took Fish from losing $250,000 per month to earning $1.2 million in it’s first year.  He later attended Tulane University and received a graduate degree in Medical Management.

Upon completion of post-graduate work, Dr. Duva assumed the position of Managing Partner and Vice President of what is now Emergency Medicine Professionals, P.A., a three-hospital, 110,000 visit corporation with 15 partners and 33 physicians. The group has been together for over 25 years. In 1997, he co-founded and developed with William Sawko, M.D.FACEP. Healthcare Billing Systems, Inc., now known as DuvaSawko. He is currently active on the ACEP Reimbursement Committee and was previously Chairman of the Finance Committee of the Florida College of Emergency Physicians(FCEP).

About DuvaSawko

DuvaSawko, Inc., is an industry leader in revolutionizing emergency department coding, billing, accounts receivable (A/R) management, practice management software and service, hospital professional fee billing, and nurse coding. Founded in 1997 by former emergency physicians, Charles Duva, M.D., and William Sawko, M.D., DuvaSawko is unmatched in its ability to deliver immediate positive results to your bottom line. As managing partners of West Volusia Emergency Physicians, the founders were all too familiar with other billing services that did not deliver consistent service and better collections.

Other billing services lacked the hands-on experience critical to understanding the requirements and distinctions of emergency medicine. Using their own experience as a guide, DuvaSawko has built a well-supported and successful system that effectively eliminates the unnecessary loss of revenue plaguing emergency healthcare providers
